Club Business and Announcements

A message from Spencer Seitz:
Greetings Rotary members,

Time to fill the clubhouse with fun loving civic minded friends.

Below is the email I have sent to my contacts seeking support for our event.  Use it if it is helpful.
PLEASE!!!  Take time to read the website for this event carefully so you can create excitement about the event when speaking with others.

If you understand Facebook or Instagram I guess you can post to those things as well which is good.  If we are going to fund the charities important to us we all need to get involved and help in some way.

GO ROTARY!!!

Dear Friends,

As our Rotary Club has lost the Balloon festival as its main fundraiser local Charities and nonprofits have lost $40,000 a year of annual support. This loss of income on a basic local level means our most vulnerable citizens may have to go with even less.

The only logical thing to do is throw a party!

Of course the party is an excuse to raise money for those in need.  Please take a look at our website which explains the team building event we have created.  It is our hope that this is a fun event people will look forward to every year.  We need your help finding teams to compete and “Bumper Buddies” to support the event (you have to see the website to understand).

In the big picture $40,000 will not make a difference solving the problems in the world today. But, on a local level it means heat in the winter, food for hungry kids or senior citizens, protection from an abusive spouse, and therapy of a child in need.  I can’t turn my back on these issues and others and hope
you can’t either.

Please let me know if you have any questions or most importantly can provide me with any introductions to recruit teams or sponsors.

Business

Spence announced that there are now 13 teams signed up to compete in the roller ball event on the 16th at Narragansett Conachet club. A professional photographer with cameras and drones will be there.

Rotarians , many of us need to be there so there will be a grand showing. Please, make every effort to attend to make this a huge success!

A motion was made , seconded and passed for the request to donate $1500.00 to the WW II museum for audio equipment; this will be matched with a $1500.00 grant from Rotary International.

Those members who intend to march in the SK vets parade should plan on assembling at 9:30 am behind the bowling alley.

Tom T announced that November is Rotary International Foundation Month. The club’s goal is for every member to donate $25.00. Checks are to be payable to “The Rotary Foundation” or cash can be left with Bill or Donna at lunch check in time.

PROGRAM
Our Speaker was Diane Nahabedian, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, of Roger Williams Park Zoo for 3+ years. RWP is mission driven with a primary goal of conserving wild life and places. RWP Zoo is the third oldest accredited and American Humane certified zoo in the country; founded in 1872, spread over 400 acres. Some 650,000 guests visit annually; and 135, 000 visit for the 32 nights of pumpkin festival. RWPZ is a not for profit organization and depends on gate traffic, memberships, grants, and corporate sponsorships for its financing.
Most of the animals housed at the zoo are born in captivity; zoos work with one another in breeding, and conservation. All animals receive 24/7 medical and dental care. There are two full time vets and vet techs on duty and specialists such as acupuncturist and ophthalmologists are available.
PETA gives zoos a lot of difficulty and would like if zoos did not exist.
There are volunteer positions available at the zoo.
