Our guest speaker for June 11, 2026, was Jeanine Silversmith, Executive Director of the RI Environmental Education Association, who updated our club about her achievements since she last spoke to us a year ago.
The RIEEA organization provides educational support on environmental topics for students from grades 1-12.
The seminal event this year has been the RI Youth Climate Conference held at Roger Williams Zoo. A variety of activities including team building using art projects as a medium for creating projects that address the impacts of climate change. This included climate action planning, roundtable discussions with adult mentors and applying for funding to support projects. Projects anticipated for later this year include a composting project and a community garden project designed for new immigrants to the Providence area.
Wakefield Rotary Club is also looking forward to support fund raising activities with RIEEA this Summer and Fall, begining with an event on July 14 at Flatbread Pizza in Providence.
